Many of you are aware that 2011 has been a bit bumpy with the loss of both parents earlier this year. It required me to close up shop temporarily and hurry home to attend to my parent's final affairs. It seems like months have passed since this whole process began back in January. Its now well into April and its time to return back to my life and my scrappy world. I'm grateful for all that I've learned through this journey. I look forward to what life lessons lie ahead.

Project Day

4th of July Event Photo Taking

Yesterday a friend shared a great idea with me for my son's wedding. I've taken her idea and included it here in my July GID (Get It Done) suggestion.

This holiday, while you are running around making sure the buns and mustard and potato salad are all in place, set a few disposable cameras around your BBQ/picnic area and have your family and guests be the ones to help snap photos of your event. (Keep and eye on the small paparazzi or you'll have shots of the lawn or someone's nose!!!)

After your event and your photos are back from the lab, stop by Scrap-To-It! and make a raw chip album or order a special word book to put your photos in of your event.

It's a great way to get out from behind the camera and capture some fun photo memories. Each photographer has his/her own eye and each of the different perspectives can be captured in a unique photo sharing/memory keeping experience.

Scrap-To-It! Get It Done Summer Classes

Get It Done Classes -

With the inception of Scrap-To-It! our mantra has been 'getting around to-it.'  Finding that "to-it" to learn that new technique, organize that box of picutres or that craft table.  Finding your 'to-it' is easier said and done.  We have developed a new series of classes designed and taught by Scrap-To-It! to tackle this very process. We are excited to offer this to you as our first 'Get It Done!" online summer class program.

Each week we will focus on a new theme or area of development and broadcast class via e-mail. As classes grow will open up other areas of techniqual opportunities such as our message board, yahoo group or other online options to hold classes and view video programs or chat with one another during sessions.

If you are like most of us you make to-do lists, you drop notes into your iphone or blackberry or planner of all the project you would need to get done.
You think and plan and put more energy into the what to do it than the actual doing.

This 6-week course begins with an introduction e-mail and then a subsequent e-mail sent each Monday thereafter. Each week we will focus on one area or theme.  The cost of this class is $35.00. You can pay at my shop, over the phone, or via paypal.

Registration is now open and will reamin open until June 25.

The first session begins on Monday June 28th with an introduction and planning week session.

Life x30 Workshop - Update

Life - x 30 Workshop (Due to my trip to the hospital I am rescheduling this class. )

You are special, you're the only one.......   Oh wait that sounds like a child's song. But the message of the lyric is true. You are unique and the way you spend your day is unique as well. What was life like for your mom or grandmom? How are things different today than in their day? How will your day be different than your children or grandchildren? In this workshop we will spend 30 days recording life, how we live it on a daily basis. We'll include some of our favorite things like music and places we shop or eat.   With the addition of though-provoking journaling prompts we'll put together a project that will highligh You and add reflection to the life you live and the goals you have for yourself.

I am going to offer two class fee options:

1. $65.00 for the full class project.
      Includes 2 classes with projects at each session and one crop night as well as the 30 daily assignments

1. Daily photo and journal assignments

2. Two group class days to work on your layouts for this album project.   These days will also include additional project and journaling promts that will add interest to the project and theme.

3. One night wrap-up crop to complete the album

Life - Times 30

I am developing new classes and projects for Scrap-To-It! that I hope will bring a lot of fun to why we scrap. Years ago the reason that scrappers spent hours putting pictures into albums was to preserve memories of their life. Time has past and I think some of the purpose and intent has been lost as we have gotten crazier and crazier into off the chart layouts. I'm not knocking the unbelievable design artist and their work. We have learned a lot from them, however, what I want to get back to is the story. That is what Life - X30 is all about.

Its a story about you, told by you, scrapped by you -- as it happens. Think about it as reality scrapbooking. We all know about reality TV -- well...this project is going to be real -- the real YOU!

Hello March!

It is so awesome to greet this new month and all the exciting events that we have to look forward to. Changes and growth are in the works and its a good feeling. Yesterday we spent the day moving from the second floor where we have been since mid-2007 to the main floor. The move went well even though my muscles are complaining today. Awesome friends came to help making quick work of it all.

Today's gratitude is for windows and a view out into the world. It is wonderful to be able to sit and look from my laptop and scrap area to the world outside. The traffic and the train bring life to my day. I am a main floor gal! All you high-rise dwellers can have it! I like to be able to see life happen around me.

As soon as I get my boxes cleared out I'll post some pictures of our new digs. Ironically years ago I stopped by to check out this very space as a possible store front. The timing wasn't right then and it took me a little while to build and grow, but today I find it fitting to finally be sitting in the space that I have been drawn to for years for my little store. I'm seeing tons of possibilities here and can see that the path I took was the one best suited for me to be where I am now.

I'm looking forward to all the great classes we have in the works. Having all the light in the work room will be awesome. Being able to have more space, more tables, more... Its all so exciting.

We look forward to your next visit to see our new space and share in our excitement.

Move Update

Did you come in the building today hoping to avoid the stairs and elevator?

Don't despair! We are still planning to move downstairs. Plans have been postponned until the current tenant has fully cleaned/cleared out. Looks like the end of Feb/first of March now.

I need a new countdown ticker ;) !!!!

Moving Madness

Do you like to move? Packing is something I put off until I can almost not get away with my procrastination any longer. Then the after burners kick in and I am a packing machine. I can't stop. I clean and organize and wear myself to a frazzle and I have to say - yuck! I dread it. I know it is supposed to be exciting to go to a new place. I know you are supposed to feel all refreshed with the new clean space and everything ordered again. Ummmm....Yuck!

Maybe its all the dry skin from wrapping stuff and the tape runner insanity....but moving is NOT! for me.

Lucily, this time I don't think it will involve wrapping paper and cardboard boxes. This time - its shove it in the elevator and let the elevator run down and up the stairs for me.   (little grin there at the elevator having to do most of my work for me..tee hee!!)

Seriously -- we are getting anxious now. Everyday we come by the new space and hope the old tenants have hauled out the rest of their things. (Drat! can't tell...still the file cab and phone sitting there.....umm...drum .. drum ..drum....fingers tapping on the window like the woman in the old Mervyn's commercials).

7 more days and counting!!!

Bear with us as we work at trying to get things in order without too much hassle for you. Hopefully we can get most of the product downstairs on Monday when we are closed and by Tuesday we'll have a bit less chaos going on by the time you arrive to shop. My goal is not to have to drag you up and down the stairs looking for things that are still in the old place when I'm in the new place.

Classes are still on the books for that first week in February too. Card class is at 10:30 Wednesday and our mini-album project on Thursday.

We may adjust our hours next Saturday if we can get in the new space. Adjustments will be on the website or you can call the shop and see if we are open.

Shopping for a new sign...

My Sign Saga....

Many of my regulars know all about my sign drama and probably others of you have seen the post that has been loitering at the top of the weblog on the store site about the frozen ground. So last night (on my birthday - mind you ) we spend the majority of the evening trolling the pipe isles of the local building supply store. If this was boring to me, imagine how it was for our 8 year old dd. After a cute conversation with the help on that isle (really nice gentleman that was a machinist by trade) we have all our gear in hand and are ready to check out.

I have to tell you that I am a bit leary about the whole thing. My DH and the landlord ( a builder by profession) have concocted this course of action to help me be able to get the sign in the ground during the winter frozen months. After having the proceedure carefully explained and pictures drawn (so I can get a 'visual') I gave the ok. The plan  includes some nifty extensions that should help propel the signage up above the cars that park curbside.   All this with the great desire on my part for people to be able to find me.

Since having this little business I have been ever so impressed on the importance of good signage and the ability for people to be able to see where you are.   A few local restrictions have not made this easy on me. Add this to the fact that signage is darn expensive and much of my stress has come from trying to get this just right and legal.

Construction begins this afternoon. So....look for the sign again - up higher !! and in its place all year round. Wish us luck. Time will tell when the snows come if the place holders that will be put into the ground will be accessable. But I have high hopes for this - at least when there isn't snow. Trying to shove the triangulared legs of a metal sign into frozen earth is not high on my list first thing in the AM when I am still frozen from my treck across town (its a blessing we live close to the shop - but in the winter that means I'm at work before the vehicle is warm - let alone ME! ;).

And thanks DH! for standing out in the cold today to get this situation a little aid. Hurry over so you can get started. Its actually 37 degrees here today (compared to the 22 you would have had to deal with yesterday) . Glad we waited.

UPDATE: It Worked!!!   Its a little weird carrying out these long black poles - but hey -- at least my sign is back up. First person to stop by the shop and talk to me about the sign will receive a special gift!

My New Toy!

It's not really new, but its not one of my regulars that I have used for years. I've actually only owned if a short while and like a lot of things, have left it on the shelf more than in my work area. But last week, when I was going mini-book crazy again (as I sometimes do) I pulled it out and found a ton of fun things online to do with it.

Besides 3 mini books, I made a triangular gift box (could be an ornament if made smaller) and a gift bac from an envelope!

Little Mini's

I have always loved little mini albums. Since I started my scrapbooking business as an event retailer/vendor I have spent hours creating every kind of little mini album I can figure out how to create.

When the Bind-it-All came out I was in absolute heaven. I love all the things you can do with it (and it only got better when it came in pink LOL!!).

This week is all about mini's again. I have put out in the shop several mini albums. One, in fact, that can be made from one sheet of paper. Its a perfect little pocket book for notes, for a series of little gift cards for some one on your gift list, or for you to organize your shopping or coupon planning. Make one for the grandma's and have everyones picture in a pocket along with a little holiday wish just from them to gram.

Call the shop or come by and schedule a private class. It doesn't take too long and you can make the pocket book and go home and embellish it in 20 minutes you have a cute, hand-made gift.

I love Christmas music, as a rule. There are some that aren't my favorite like that repatitive 12 Days of Christmas. However, the 12 Days of Christmas does make a great song to turn in to great holiday sales promo. Have you been watching the store site? So far this week we have had papers, embellishments, kits and now Tim Holtz products on sale. Each day it is something different and each day it is 15-25% off. Its our way to give back to you this Christmas for all of your great support during the year.

We are so very grateful for all of our wonderful customers. It is so true in this business that we become great friends, almost family. Journaling December - Prep Work

I have been pondering what to use for the past couple of days and have decided on altering a composition book. I figure if I get out of control - as I sometimes tend to do, I can slice the book and bind it with rings or in my bind-it-all.

A Scrap-To-It! Take On Journaling December

I just love December - the whole month is one big celebration for me. The anticipation of each little part of getting ready for the holidays. The shopping, decorating, baking, wrapping and cooking are all noteworthy. Each year I have kept a record of what I do or at least my plans. This year I have been inspired to go one step further and take on Ali E.'s project idea for December Daily. In typical STI! style we will be creating a mini-album.

The album will feature 31 pages to journal, add pictures, calendars, planners, to-do lists and anything else we can dream up to capture Christmas 2009.

Join me on a journey through December. We'll create and inspire as we work together on a project that is sure to be a family treasure.

I love the fall, the leaves and the colors are breathtaking. This year, however, ALL of the fall seems to have fallen in my backyard. This picture doesn't even do it justice from my kitchen window perspective. To the right and left of me are neighbors with leaf-lessly green lawns. It seems as though the woods have decided that I am to be the host for the leaf party they are throwing this season

Add to this the rain and ugh!!
I love fall!

We're thinking of repeating the promotion again towards the end of the year so that we don't have to inventory so much. Watch the newsletter for more details as the year draws to a close.

Our website is still 'under construction' as our web developer postponned her labors on our site to move. We hope she is getting settled in and enjoying her new home. We're looking forward to showing off the new site soon. In the meantime, we'll be using the blog for details on the store events.

Card Class Update: We are looking to get a head count on those interested in our Thursday night card class that we would like to begin next month. Our day class has been so successful that we are opening up a second group for those who can't make the day class. If you'd like to join our card class - please e-mail me to sign up.

GNOC: Our Friday Crop is scheduled for 6:30 this Friday. We already have a few signed up, but may have space available. If you'd like to join our crop group. E-mail us to check on the current seating availability.

Classes for September: We are working on our class calendar and will have that in our next e-newsletter. Watch your inbox for those details.

Now that school is back in session we can begin to get all those summer photos scrapped and plans made for holiday crafting projects. Let Scrap-To-It! help with those. We offer table time each day classes are not scheduled. $5.00/day form 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Use of tools (excluding cricut machine) are included. Our Friday crop is $8.00 and our Saturday crop is $10.00. Call the day before to reserve your space. This month's Friday Crop is 8/28 and our Saturday crop is 8/29.

About every few years Scrap-To-It! gets a new look. Like a fresh coat of cyber paint. Its that time of year again. If you have been checking out the website and wondering what all the funky little characters are --- well now you know. Bear with us for a little longer and we'll have everything back in shape and pages loading correctly.

Along with all the updates that will bring my site into the current time (my wordpress was sadly behind) we will be linking our blogger to our main site. You'll now have two places to read all my crazy ramblings or to find the deals, coupons, product announcements, class ideas and schedules and any of the little things that go on at STI! Is it irony that we woke up today on the day we celebrate our independence to rain (tears from Heaven)? I wonder. I have always had a stong patriotic heart. I have studied and read the lives of our founding fathers and taught from primary sources the greatness of their lives to my students. It is always exciting to think about July 4th, but I wonder today, how far we have come from the freedoms that were intended for us to possess by those who were there at the inception of our country.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. ~ The Declaration of Independence July 4, 1776
Today I wish for all a day of celebration, regardless of what weather your day is met with, may all the important things, the experiences that really matter be celebrated this day. Celebrate the people in your lives; family and friends, young and old. And of course, don’t forget to capture a part of this on film to record for those who will come behind. Many of what was good from the days of our parents has been lost. What will our kids loose? I hope today is more than fireworks, hot dogs and hamburgers and as much about gratitude and prayers for our great country and those who are in office now as leaders. May they all be true to that stewardship.

Happy Birthday America. God bless you and all of us who hold this land dear.

National Scrapbook Day at STI!

We love to celebrate and May is good month for celebrating. National Scrapbook Day, Mother's Day, Memorial Day....and just because. At STI! we'll be celebrating the whole month long. This past weekend we posted a little offer on the website. Several people saw it and were able to take advantage of the beginning of our NSD promotions.

NSD STI! style continues as we go into this week of May. Friday May 8th we'll be having a Chocolate Crop and on Saturday May 9th we'll be doing product demo MNTs in the store.

Easter Egg Album Class

The colors are fresh and springy. The album is loaded with darling embellishments.

Snowing on Scrap-To-It!

This is actually the back property of my home. Its stunning out there today with the sun hitting the ice crystals and the snow, at present, undisturbed after its falling to the earth. I love having this view to gaze upon. I hope I didn't miss anyone at the store today. The phones have been fairly quiet. I guess you are all doing what we did today -- shovel, shovel and shovel. While this is nothing compared to the other places I have lived that get much more snow -- its enough to give us a nice lovely white coating to the part of the world we look at -- at least for a short time!

I totally need to figure out how to get the pics in here where I want them...but today I'm too busy to play because I have a customer's project to finish before class. I'll just explain and then try again next time.

The theme of the layout is -"My 10 Favorites." These are a few of mine.

The first two are my favorite haunts (don't shoot me -- but yes, I love Wallies!!)

I don't think my DS likes it that Bread Company is my favorite haunt now that he works at the one I frequent. But hey -- 'whatever'!! Let his friends think I'm weird. Their food is way better than M's down the road or Jack in the???

The flower is a Tuber Rose. Oh man! If you've not had the pleasure of one of these in your bathroom during a hot shower --- it needs to be added to your 'to-do before I die' list. These were a special treat I'd get for myself at the little flower shop I worked at in California. The smell is so magnificent that it was a little luxury that made a bad day or bad week or a 'just for the heck of it' that much better!

The last one is a picture of fudge. Need I say more?????? I own a small fudge company along with Scrap-To-It! Its some dang good fudge -- if I do say so myself. And if I had the money and time and my little DD was older -- I'd make fudge all day instead of scrapbook....well..maybe not all day...but you know what I mean!

So there you have it --- a few favs for the layout!

I thought I'd go ahead and post our holiday schedule so that you'd have a couple places to check for when you could catch us in the shop when you are trying to finish up those holiday projects and need just one more little embellie to finish up.

From now through December 23 we are in the shop weekdays, including Monday from 10:00 AM - 5:30 PM. Saturday we are here from 10:30 AM - 4:30 PM. We are always closed Sunday.

Nothing To Do With Scrapbooking and Everything To Do With....

I know this post has nothing to do with scrapbooking -- but it does have everything to do with the upcoming holiday and all the fun (or disappointment) of the evening.

While purusing the internet today, I came across this on Yahoo.
"The 10 Most Disappointing Treats for Trick-or-Treaters"

I couldn't resist reading it. Itsn't this the bane of every little princess or cowboy or goblin, ghost and ghoul as walking up to the candy bowl at the door and finding that junk candy?

Honestly, we make other plans on that night that include getting our own bag of our favorite chocolate. But we do like to pass out candy and we have been talked into running around the block (or two or three) at the last minute before we go back to our private stash and pizza and a movie.

Black Friday A.K.A Turkey Buck Day At STI

In just a few weeks, 6 in fact, we will begin the big holiday shopping season. "Black Friday" as it is often referred to here in the US is the biggest shopping day of the year.

Last year at Scrap-To-It! we held our Black Friday/Thanksgiving Sales on Wednesday before Turkey Day. We had some great sales and enjoyed the visits we had that day. However this year, we are going to be shaking our Thanksgiving Sale up a bit.

Tuesday November 25th - Turkey Buck Sale
For every $10.00 spent during the sale you will be able to earn turkey bucks to be used towards sale items in December. More details will follow in our newsletter and on the website.

Wednesday - Saturday November 26 - 29th We will be closed, but you are welcome to call the store if you need anything and we can schedule a shopping appointment.

We will be open on Monday December 1st and remain open each Monday through December.

We are excited about this holiday season. We have some great projects and classes planned and hope that you'll spend some of your creative time with us at STI!

Anniversary/Birthday Sale

I knew a year ago, when I signed the lease on my store space and took my 5 year old online store into a retail store front that one day, this day, my first anniversary, would come. It seemed far away and didn't really take up much thought, but I knew I'd make it. I knew my drive and determination to succeed was strong and real. I had a plan, and while to some it may seem like a small scale dream, it was mine and I worked at it with the same love and determination as anyone trying to forge a path through a course they had yet to chart.

My parents owned a retail store many many years ago and I had worked in retail (among many other life-paths) I knew the long hours, I knew of the commitment and I knew that it wouldn't always be just what I had hope. Nonetheless, I had a dream, a plan and the timing was right. I just had to take the leap of faith and see where it would all go. What a ride it has been.

From the day the ad hit the papers customers began showing up. Wonderful people who have become some of my dearest friends. I knew this was the way it was supposed to work, yet it still took me by surprise.

Over the year my little store has grown from a small, barely filled office space, to one over-flowing and bursting at the seams, (I had to get creative for how to display product there for a while) to a 5 room store with many more possibilities to discover and work through over the next year. I'm so excited to see where this all takes me.

However, no good mile marker should be left un-celebrated...and in honor of a year of fun and friendships and growth we are celebrating our birthday. If you are in our area, please join us on September 27th for a day of creating and celebrating!

A special thank you to all of you who have become a part of the Scrap-To-It! family this year. We love you, we appreciate you and we hope for many more days of friendship and laughter and joy!

Orders must be placed with us directly and not via the website. Not all products on this site are available for sale in the store -- but can be ordered for you. Shipping is very quick and anything you order that isn't currently in stock can be to you within 2-3 days (Depending on the ordering time. Weekends not included in this time frame.)

New Digs for STI!

Scrap-To-It! moved last week and we are so excited to be in our new store. We are bigger and better and have so many awesome ideas for our next year in business. With a year under our belt on the brick/mortar front we are anxiously preparing for an anniversary sale and Birthday Bash Crop.

Scrap-To-It!

What Happened to May and June??

I'm not sure where June went, but I can say that towards the end of May my world came to a screeching halt. How? Well, if you have ever taken a trip to the hospital for a few days, that's how. Towards mid-May my daughter became very ill, suddenly so, drastically and frighteningly so. We ended up at Children's for a few days to treat her. While it was a frightening time, my stay there was also eye-opening and brought me to my knees in gratitude. With a child in the hospital, this momma keeps a tight vigil and refuses to budge or sleep. Each night the life flight helicopter stopped right near my daughter's hospital room window, over and over and over. Over and over I was reminded that while my daughter was not well, she was not in a desperate condition that required a life flight. Over and over I thanked God for that blessing.

This was a first for me with a child, but not personally. And I'm here to tell you that hospital stays take me from reality and cause an abrupt stop to my brain, memory and life processes. It always takes me a while to get back into the grove. This is what happened to my June.

Now tomorrow finds me now at the 4th of July and our nation's Independence Day. If you are in the Wentzville area of Missouri tomorrow you'll find Scrap-To-It! along the parade route on West Pearce passing out flyers and coupons for our Summer Spectacular Scrapbooking Sale. Whatever you are doing tomorrow, I hope you spend the day with those you love celebrating our freedoms. Even though times can be a bit tight now for some, gas prices what they are, we still have much to be thankful for. I hope that as the parade passes by your corner of our country, that seeing the flag brings tears to your eyes too. I hope that your children and grandchildren see that so that they gain a sense of patriotism. I hope that you drive by the cemetery where the flags are flying over the graves of those who have served our country and have kept the war from being in the backyards of our children. I hope that as your set your BBQ upon your tables, that you pause first to bow your head and thank God above for all of your blessings. What we have here in the United States is a gift from God. I hope all of us remember that. Especially this year, when we need a president that supports the beliefs this country was founded on. That God can be said in school. That children, and adults of faith, can pray and praise without condemnation. That peace will stay in this land and wars stay in others.

Out With Rainy May and in with a Sunny Summer!!

With Memorial Day approaching, and hopefully the rain leaving us here in the mid-west, we can begin to think about summer. I was at the garden shop yesterday looking for ideas for my flowerbed, but since it was pooring down rain, again!!...I opted to wait. Nothing like having flowers sitting in their containers and spoiling while we wait for the ground to dry out for planting. As I was wandering the isles, I wondered how many others were in my same boat, not sure if we'd be working on the gardens and having BBQs or trying to escape town and the rain for some other form of entertainment for the holiday weekend.

Typically Memorial Day weekend is the kick-off for summer. School is over or just about and our days are usually warmer. This year shows signs of not being the norm. Add to that the crazy gas prices and this weekend is starting to look like a great opportunity to get together with the gals and scrap.

Welcome May!
May is a great month for scrapbooking. Besides National Scrapbook Day and Mothers Day, did you know the month of May also hosts these awesome picture taking opportunities?
1. National Smile Month – Here’s a chance to go through all those old photos you have and create a collage of pictures of your favorite smiles. Silly, cheesy, not so happy and so on.
2. National Hamburger Month – Take the camera and the family out to your favorite burger joint.
3. National Garage Sale Month – Think about taking the kids on a photo op thru their room snapping pictures of old toys and clothes that you clear out to donate. Save the memory while making space for new treasures to come.
4. May 15, is National Chocolate Chip day and May 16 is National Pizza Day. Pizza and chocolate…my kids would love a day in the kitchen with mom celebrating these two ingredients – both overly loved at our house. What about at yours?

As stated in last month’s e-mail the new Core’dinations cardstock has arrived.
This is a nice canvas textured cardstock that can be used as a traditional card -
stock or you can personalize it by sanding, tearing or antiquing. Each sheet has
a true-dyed core which compliments the surface color.

We also brought in a selection of Bazzill Smoothies – in luscious Father’s Day project colors. As well as a couple nice metallics.

We have more paper towers coming so that we can carry a bigger cardstock selection. We know there are many that are fond of Bazzill, but hope you’ll give these other really nice papers a try.

Technique Time!
For this month's technique - let's talk photographs. Spring and summer is a great time to take pictures out of doors. To talk great pictures the Photography Trade Association has set up a great website with tips and tricks.

After you try a few, send us a good example of your before and after. Along with a paragraph explaining the technique you used, what you learned and how it helped you.

We'll be compiling all of these for a photo contest. Three great prizes (tba at a later date) will be awarded to the winning entries. Here's the link:

Non-Mom (or Celebrating Me) Layouts
It is true we all have a mom, but we aren’t all moms, or we don’t have little ones at home to scrap any more. Here are a few ideas for layouts for page that has nothing to do with you as a mom or you as a mother-in-law, or any other mom theme, but rather taking this month of May to celebrate you.

1. Scrap a photo of yourself as a child
2. Scrap a ‘day in the life of’ layout
3. Scrap your obsessions
4. Do a self Q/A. Ask and answer some questions about YOU
5. Scrap some of your favorites around town, places you shop, eat, play

Get yourself in the photos and tell the story of YOU. If you tend to be behind the camera a lot, you need to step out, every once in a while and tell your side of things.

Scrap-To-IT! Times!
April 2008 Edition

National Scrapbook Day!
In just a few weeks we will be celebrating another National Scrapbook Day. Now this might not be as big a day as say Christmas or your kid’s birthdays, but hey, that we, as scrapbookers, have our very own recognized day – it’s a ‘good thing!’ Ok, so maybe it doesn’t make the cut for calendar makers, but it is on our calendar and at STI we are planning and preparing to celebrate. We’ll be sending out a special NSD announcement as the details finalize and date gets closer. Watch your e-mail!!

New in the Store -
Pink Paislee, our new paper vendor, made a huge splash last month – so much so that we have now replenished our stock. If you didn’t get a chance to pick up these delicious scalloped papers, stop by Scrap-To-It! and see them for yourself.
For those of you who are already enjoying these awesome papers, we have added a couple new sheets to our collections. You’ll have to come see these in person to appreciate the detail and texture on these.

Crate Paper - Our newest paper line is here and looking oh so wonderful on the shelves. We have the new release, Kaitlin and Blue Hill. Along with the beautiful papers are some awesome rub-ons, some color to coordinate with the collection and the rest are in the delicious chocolate brown – ‘the new black’. Stop by the store and see these papers in person.

Crop-A-Dile II – The Big Bite is here. Well…we have one left. We were expecting several, but there was such a big rush on these from the trade show that they sold out at the manufacturer. We were lucky to get the three we did. We are expecting more, so if you are still waiting to get yours, please get on our pre-order list – soon. They are scheduled to ship from the manufacturer in May.

Kaiser Crafts - We will also be bringing in some wonderful paper and rub-on samplings from a new manufacturer, Kaiser Crafts. Kaiser has been feeding the craft cravings of the Australian market for quite a few years. They now have a facility here in the US that we can take advantage of. We are so excited to bring in their products.
Kaiser also has a great line-up of altered products in the raw for those of you who like to make home décor projects. We’ll be putting some images on the website soon for you to check out.

Designer: Michelle Charles (Mountain View, Oklahoma) Here are some basic instructions for applying the ink to any surface. If working on a porous surface (fabric, uncoated paper), coat with white Gesso. Let dry. Use a Sponge Dauber, Jumbo Dauber, Ink Sweeper or cosmetic sponge to dab StazOn ink onto surface. To blend colors, lightly dab color over other ink color. Let ink dry. Stamp designs over inked background with StazOn black ink. Stencil and doodle designs and words with black Fabrico permanent marker (or other black permanent marker). Highlight doodles and words with a white paint marker. Add additional embellishments with glitter glue and rhinestones. Optional: Seal surface with a water-based varnish.

Tunes at STI!

Music tells a lot about about a person and can be a window to a soul. Have you ever scrapbooked with music lyrics? Do you use lines from songs or titles in your layouts? Do you collect and scrap your favorite quotes and thoughts? Music lyrics are a great addition to these types of albums.

We've been trying to add a playlist to our blog to entertain you as you read up on the activities at Scrap-To-It!. If the playlist isn't working when you open the blogsite, give me some time. This is a stretch for me and I may have to get my web buddy to help fix me. If it does work, it might speak volumes about the owner and author of 'Round and Round with Scrap-To-It!" If you are brave -- leave me a comment or two about my selections -- but go easy on me!

In the mean time, be thinking about the kinds of songs you like. Why you like them. When do you play them, and why? Does music stir you or does it relax you? Do you listen to different genres or are you a true-blue loyal to one style? Consider doing a layout or 'book of me' page about your music likes and dislikes. Consider doing one every few years as music changes and often we do too.

When I was growing up, I couldn't get my parents to even try to listen to my music. It actually took a few grandkids to help bring my parents up to speed. I have actually enjoyed having a teenager around to keep me in the loop with music trends. Granted, I don't like all of what he does, but I've enjoyed hearing some great tunes or touching lyrics in what he's introduced me to.

Scrapbooking and music...do they go together? What do you think? Those of you that are older, do you have memories of the music of high school days? Did you and your main squeeze have a song? What did you play at your wedding?

Those of you that are young moms now do you spend most of your time listening to Wiggles and Dan Zane (sheesh I hope I spelled that right)? My kids are really spread apart and for a long while if the radio was on in the SUV it was kid stuff. The teenager and I often opted for silence rather than spend an hour re-running Little People tunes. Luckily my dd has begun showing signs of enjoying what her older brother listens to (which of course means more mom monitoring). All of these are the seasons and phases of life. Do these things make it into the pages of your story? What will be your recorded history? Think about it...and see if music shouldn't be included.

Time To Scrap!

Ok...Valentine's day has come and gone. So has the green milk and pancakes and Easter too. If the rain would just stop and the rest of the cold weather, we would actually believe spring was on the way. I can see that the bulbs feel it.

Its a good time now to get out the box with the photos on it and start to put together a couple plans for your scrapbooks. Are you doing mini albums to help get the pictures scrapped? Are you using kits? What about some 'simple scrapping' techniques. Get the pictures on the pages and the memories recorded. Not every page needs to be an artistic masterpiece.

Every once in a while I go back to why I started scrapbooking and use that reminder as my focus. Also, it helps to talk to a couple other scrappers and see what they do to keep on focus or to keep caught up.

One friend on mine scraps 2 layouts per month of her child's activities. If something particularly memorable happens then that can be added in also if the 2 pages are done for the month and time permits. This way, she stays current on the year for her child and doesn't overwhelm herself with added stresses of recording everthing. Truly there isn't a way to record a whole life, but there is a way for the child to see meaning in their days as the years pass. And, for those recordings to go on thru time to the children and grandchildren of this child.

Another idea is to keep a planner of sorts of the layouts you want to do. Sketch them out and plan the titles etc as you take the pictures. Use Blueprint Layouts or Becky Higgins Sketch book for ideas of layouts. As you get the pictures printed or developed, take the sketch layout drawing and start to compile a kit for the layout. Put your notes, thoughts and journaling in the kit. When the layout it done your notes can be kept behind the page in the sheet protectors. This is a nice way to save details of you, the scrapper for your posterity to see.

Pink has always been up at the top of my color favorites. As the trends come and go I find myself moving towards different colors, but I always come back to pink. So naturally I love February. I love when the Valentine papers and embellishments start showing up in the store. This year is no exception. We have really darling embellishments made for us by one of our private vendors. These designs are unique and cannot be found in other scrapbook stores. We have new chipboard word books just in time for all those pictures of you and your favorite loves. And we have some awesome papers from our favorite paper manufacturers. If the scrumptions colors of red, pink and browns sing to you, check out the new release from Scribble Scrabble. I'm sitting in the store this afternoon looking at my little Scrap-To-It! Christmas tree (image pending) and reading all the 'year-end-blow-out sale' e-mail from all the vendor and retailer lists I'm on and realizing it is that time of year again.

Oh what to do.....?????

We need to have more sales and move out some product and thin out what needs to be counted before tax time.

Everybody loves sales, but there sure is a technique to it to move out the ending seasonal items so that next year you can collect what is current and not have old stuff sticking around. Scrappers are picky about the perceived 'old lines.'

This year I had some awesome holiday papers in the store. I'm hoping they will still be awesome when I put them up for 'Inventory Blow Out.' I have some awesome chipboard word books too. So if these are items you are looking for, be sure to watch the website and the newsletter for the sales and promotions on these products.

If you are looking for something else ----ummmmmmmmmm e-mail me to see if I'm in a bartering mode..ya never know!!

Besides all the inventory sale e-mail I've already (since before Christmas even) been receiving all the new Valentine release e-mail. I'm totally in love with some of the new lines and can't wait to get my orders placed. I wish I had room for more lines than I do. I love paper (of course, thats why I'm a scrapper!) But here are some questions I want to throw out to all of you (and please feel free to e-mail me your answers. I'd love to send some thank you gifts for the responses -- hint hint).

1. If there is a manufacturer you like, do you want ALL the papers in that line? Or would you pick and choose patterns that you are attracted to?

2. Do you want all the embellies and fibers and do-dah's that compliment the line?

3. How often do you by-pass the coordinating elements?

4. What about the alphas that go with the paper? Do you buy them? What do you do with the extras? What do you do when you don't have enough of one particular letter?

5. Do you like to combine paper lines from different manufacturers and if so, what manufacteres are your favorite to combine (ones you know work best together)?

6. Do you like the paper pads or 6x6 or 8x8 stacks or would you rather just buy open stock/by the sheet?

Snowing On My Party!!!

Does it rain on your parade when the weather is bad? It does on mine...cuz I'm a bit of a baby when it comes to going out in the muck and the slush. Slipping and sliding to work never excited me. But I am always fascinated with the snow. In fact I've hated to let my kids go out and ruin the beauty of the clean white blanket covering the yard. Especially here in Missouri, where we back up to the woods. It is so beautiful and mystical that I can just sit and look out my window in awe! Eventually I give in though, bundle them up and send them out. Before long there's a good snowball fight (and a good photo op) happening!

Its not really raining on my parade, but it is snowing and slowing me down a bit and causing me to have to choose between closing for a snow day and playing with my kids, or....

You see, today is my birthday and I was planning on having a private sale at the store today. You know, one of those kind where I put a bunch of things up for sale or for FREE!!! and let shoppers draw from the bowl or spin for their sale.

Living the Dream - revisited

They don't tell you when they call it 'living the dream' that the inception period of this dream phase is very tiring. Many hours are spent trying to figure it all out. I don't want to re-invent the wheel, but some things for sure aren't working or scrapbook stores would not be closing all around me. The industry is in a flux and the economy is an issue too. These two factors are the reason my store has been set up the way it has. My plan, may be visually a bit different, but I think it will keep me in business longer. (Now let's hope my DH doesn't get wild ideas of looking for work out of the state....I had one of those scares last month...but it passed...phewwww!!!)

If you happen upon my store and are looking for a great big new place to come scrapbook, you may be a little disheartened. However, if you are looking for a place local to our community, where you can find better service (than the "A" store or the big boxes) you might enjoy coming in and plopping down on the floor and going through the buckets on the grid wall. (A lot of ladies seem to get in to this! And the guys who used to be in the office across the hall thought it was HILARIOUS!!!!)

Living the dream...

On September 4, 2007 we opened the doors to our retail store front. Scrap-To-It! has been an online and event store for the past 5 years. In August we took the big jump and opened the doors to a small retail outlet for our online store. We began spreading the word that we were planning to become the #1 Scrapbook Resource Center in Wentzville. It's a big goal and objective. Some have been a little surprized at our size (or lack thereof), but most, have come finding a homey and welcoming little shop where they can visit, shop, share, and be number 1 for that moment. While our space my be meak, we do have hopes and plans to grow and expand. In the meantime we bring to the table years of vending experience and a good solid retail background. It has been a delightful couple of months meeting new friends and having wonderful experiences with people. We look forward to many more rewarding friendships as we continue to grow and share this wonderful experience of scrapbooking.

To day is a day to find my 'to-it' again. I hope! Wrapping up the school year took a bit longer this year than usual. (see my blog at http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/tendertutor/). Adding to that an upgrade to our business plan and some changes at STI.

Last year, as many know, we did a total re-mod on the storefront. Adding in a forum. It was a fun and involved project. I loved the forum, but soon it found its way to the spammers. I was spending more time deleting offensive posts than being able to post or enter our new products into the store. I sat on what to do for a while. Spent even more hours looking over various forum options. Sat on it again. Until this past week when I set up a new yahoo group for the store.

Growing and falling behind

If it is possible to continue to progress and still fall behind then that is me. I'm happy to say that since my last post the store and its revisions have done very well. Keeping up to date on all the new inventory as well as all our crops and events has made me fall way behind on any blog sites or newsletter dreams I once held.

If you haven't been to see the store lately, check it out. I just love the changes there and still have much more to come. All a work in progress....(me as much as the stores).

It's all exciting and continues to make me wish I could be in two places at once!

The last time I posted I stated that my blog and my store were lacking in attention. Well....I'm excited to report that at least one of these attention-needing items has been addressed.

So I don't end up like my parents (sorry mom and dad -- but ya just aren't so hot with the gadgets at your house! kiss kiss) and my ds doesn't look at me and roll his eyes -- I'm on the pursuit of educating myself to the current trends.

Where oh Where are you Scrap-To-It!

My blogs and e-store are sorely in need of attention. I have a very sick mom who lives about 1300 miles from me. If you've ever had an aging parent, you know some of what I'm writing about. My dad isn't in his top form either. Every so often we shut down our world and pack up the car to make the voyage down the very long road from my home to theirs. It's a worthwhile and needful venture, but also very hard on the other aspects of life.

As I said, one of my goals has been to open a store in the community where I live. We're working on the business plan now trying to get the initial steps formed. I'm not sure if/when we'll actually pull it off. I still have the worries of elderly parents, and the big issue of my homeschoolers, especially the one I will just be starting this year.

My big problem is I want to do both (homeschool and own a business). I'm not sure if it is do-able for me (being an obsessive perfectionist). With one of my homeschooler almost done and another one just starting, their two curriculum and instruction needs take a lot of time. However, putting off the dream doesn't seem the right consideration either. What I hope to do is find a way to work with what I have to make the dream happen.

Round and Round the Holiday Season

The snow finally fell here in the midwest where normally we live hail and hardy year round, however, today my little one fights the flu. In between holding and comforting her, I am trying to get my 'to-it' together to start to scrap a few holiday projects.

I'm struggling this year with getting to my projects. Is it the cold that keeps me from getting to it? Or something else this year?

I've been reading holiday stories the past couple of days -- you know, the kind you need a tissue box for. I've been reading all the little sweet ones I used to read to my first and second graders too. I love stories about Christmas and giving and I was hoping the stories would take me to the mental space I need to get to but haven't yet.

I've had my tree up since the day after Thanksgiving. Usually that is a dedicated shopping day -- breakfast, lunch and shop 'till you drop. Not so much for the sales, but for the fun of opening up the holiday season out amongst the holiday-goers. Instead we put on Christmas CDs and made cocoa and tried to get into the spirit of things while decorating our home. It looks wonderful, but not.

I couldn't find the right lights for my yard this year. Last year I used some spiral trees and garland. While the lights work fine I didn't have the patience this year to untangle the ridiculously thin strings so the spirial could hang in its proper tree shape. I hate that it is dark in front of my house this year. There is something for me about the eery winter haze about the air and teeny lights about the neighborhood. I've never been able to describe the feeling that seems to draw me someplace unknown, yet familiar, as I look about between the cold air at the lights on the homes near mine. I want mine to have that same feel. I need to try a few other stores and see if there are some options I haven't considered yet.

Today is December 7th, the flu will pass before long and when it does I'll turn up the heat and get to work. A few good ol' Christmas stand-bys from the video cabinet and some hot Vanilla Creme and I'll be good to go for a long night of playing with my favorite stash of paper and embellishments. I hope!

I hope the holidays are full and enriching for those of you reading along here. I hope you return here again, and comment too, when your feel inclined. My goal is to make more posts in '06. Possibly even use this forum for some specials and a gallery from my scrap store.

New to blogging

Since I am new to this whole blog deal I don't come here often to update. Also, as you can see from my tag-line that I don't often have my 'To-It!" therefore it is a hit and miss sort of thing. However, I wanted to put a few words here to cyber-paper or as I saw on another blog one day, 'talk more to myself.' LOL!!!

Summer is over and school is back in session. Home-school that is. I am schooling my 15 yo DS in the principal approach from the FACE curriculum. I love this. It gives me a chance to really effect an individual's point of view, teaching him to be truth based, to think deeper, to feel more intently, and all the while to become the scholar he wants to become. It is a process, not an event. I also home school my almost 4 yo dd. For sure this is miss more than hit. I'm fine with that. I don't force it on her as I have many opportunities during the day to work instruction in to our normal living.

Aside from school starting, so is the business back up after our summer break. I kind of closed my doors for a time while I went home to help family. Mom had surgery and I went home to be sure all was well and help with the recovery. It feels good to get back to scrapping and get Scrap-To-It! back on track again. It is for sure, my therapy in a life where it is mom and school, and then mom and kids, 7 days a week.

I love being a mom, don't get me wrong, however, I am not foolish enough to belive it is enough. When we are enriched, we can enrich others. I find that my work helps my children as well. Teaching my DS to work/run a business, teaching my DD to find her creative place. My DD loves to scrap, btw!

So Septermber is upon us, school and preparpations for events. Colors turn in the woods behind the house and colors turn here on the kitchen table as portfolios come to life.
